Do you have a business that you run out of your home?
You wouldn't complete the Form 1099-NEC if the individual is a household employee.
Household workers are your employees if you not only control what work they do, but also how they do it. So maids, nannies, babysitters, cooks and gardeners would likely be employees. Contractors such as plumbers and repairmen who operate as independent businesses would not likely be household employees.
You need to complete Schedule H Household Employment Taxes if you paid any one household employee $2,700 or more in 2024 or paid more than $1,000 in combined wages to household employees in any one quarter in 2024. If you didn't pay any one worker $2,700 or more in wages, you don't need to pay social security and Medicare tax (FICA) for your employees, but you do need to pay federal unemployment taxes on all workers if you paid more than $1,000 in combined wages in one quarter during 2024. You also need to issue them a W-2 form if they earned more than $2,700 in the year.
