Can you be more specific? What screen asks that question? Is it an IRA?

 

There are different types of retirement plans and each have their own set of rules. There are pensions, annuities, IRAs and subsets of each.

 

If it is a Roth or Non-deductible IRA, you need to know your basis to potentially separate taxable and non-taxable amounts.
