No, you must ask the issuer of the 1099-R for a corrected one.

The reason is that the IRS also receives a copy of your 1099-R from the issuer.  If you send a different amount in than what's reported, then there obviously will be a discrepancy.

If the issuer sends you a corrected 1099-R, then a corrected copy also goes to the IRS.
