When is it necessary to file social security benefits on a tax return?

At what amount? And also held a job last year? I was told that you didn’t have to. I added and they taxed the benefits.

If you file a return for any reason you must also enter the SS benefits from the SSA-1099 form even if the benefits are not taxable ... failure to do so will get you an IRS letter later.
