Yes, this subtraction from income comes up in the Virginia state return, but it's not automatic. Here's how to find it:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select State Taxes, then Your State Returns.
  3. Select Edit to the right of Virginia.
  4. Continue through the return until your get to Here's the income that Virginia handles differently.
  5. Select Start to the right of Military Benefits Subtraction.
  6. Enter the amount of your military retirement pay included in your federal income, but not more than $20,000.
  7. Continue with your return.
