To get rid of the retirement savings credit I saw a turbo tax specialist say to click “full time student” to refuse the credit. But if youre not, isn’t it lying on taxes?

You do not have to claim a credit you are entitled to.  You can choose not to accept the credit, and this is the only way to tell the program you do not want the credit.  You are always free to cheat yourself, you just can't cheat the IRS.

How do you choose not to accept the credit in this scenario?

Clicking full time student disqualifies you for the credit.

Just to clarify then, that is the only option to not receive the credit? It is not considered falsifying information?

No, you can manually prepare your return and not include the credit.  The program automatically includes it when it sees certain information from your W-2.

Sorry to re-word, then by not preparing manually and only going through turbo tax, clicking full time student is the only way to not receive the credit? And that is not considered false info?

My last reply was incorrect.  If you manually prepare your return, you can take the credit without paying the upgrade fee.
