Slot machine winnings being on SSDI

I have a question, I am permanently disabled and receiving SSDI and recently won two $800 daily jackpots on a slot machine. I have never filed taxes before because I am disabled will I need to file taxes to report my winnings? I know they say it doesn't count against my benefits but do I still need to report to the IRS ? Thanks so much!

If that is your only taxable income you don’t have to file.

Thank you so much I appreciate you! I was so worried never had to file taxes before and from what I was reading on Google  it was saying to report all winnings to the IRS so I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't want the IRS coming after me when I'm sick with stage 4 cancer lol thanks again! 😊🙏

If you are single and have no special circumstances, the income is not enough to owe taxes.  You could certainly prepare a return using the Free version of turbotax, just to be sure.

However, there is some nuance here.  If you are married, your spouse files as "married filing separately", and claims itemized deductions, then you must file and pay tax because you are not entitled to the normal standard deduction.   If you are married, and file a joint return with your spouse, you must list all your combined income, even small amounts like this.
