Should I enter separate 1009-R for a 1009-R that has 8 line entries or one with the total?

If you mean you have eight 1099-Rs, I suggest you enter each one individually.  There may be seemingly small things like the entry in Box 7 that may be different.

If box 1 (and or box 2a) has several entries but the rest of the boxes have just one entry, then it is probably from a financial institution that assigns a separate account number to each fund that it holds and lists them separately with a not of the fund or account number (only a few do that - most only report the total in box 1 & 2a).   There is no need to enter separate 1099-Rs - just add up all the amounts and enter the total in the box.
