I have a 1099-R for retirement pay that from my former spouse's retirement. Box 2a Taxable Amount is Unknown. Box 9b Total Employee Contributions is blank. How do I determine the Taxable Amount? Do I need to know what should be in Box 9b? Does it matter that my former spouse's retirement age was 52 but mine is not? I am about a year younger than him.

I have a 1099-R for retirement pay that from my former spouse's retirement.
In you get regular payments this will be taxed as regular income.
Box 2a Taxable Amount is Unknown. Box 9b Total Employee Contributions is blank.
That is okay. These boxes are often left blank.
How do I determine the Taxable Amount?
If this is a retirement account the full amount will be taxable. If you get regular payments it will be taxed as regular income.
Do I need to know what should be in Box 9b?
No, this will not apply, a retirement account will not have a basis associated with it.
Does it matter that my former spouse's retirement age was 52 but mine is not? I am about a year younger than him.
If you get regular distributions from the account your retirement age will not make a difference.
This is how to post your 1099-R
