No, you are both equally considered to be "the taxpayer" on a joint return (federal or state). They just want to use one of your names for internal tracking purposes, and also for labelling paper copies of your return in case they are ev er needed.

No, you are both equally considered to be "the taxpayer" on a joint return (federal or state). They just want to use one of your names for internal tracking purposes, and also for labelling paper copies of your return in case they are ev er needed.
