Since it is over $1100 and he is a dependent on your return, it does have to be reported, but you can opt to report it on your tax return instead of filing a separate return for him.  To do that,

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and open or continue your return.
  2. Search for child income and select the Jump to link.
  3. We'll ask a series of questions to determine if their income needs to be reported on a tax return (it does). You can report it on your return or their return.

Note: If the child's income is $12,200 or more, it must be on the child's tax return. It can't be included in the parents' tax return.

Does my dependent need to file a tax return?
