Yes, SSDI income may be taxable if the taxable income of your Social Security Disability reaches a certain threshold. As I researched this carefully, The Live Assistant may have mistaken this for SSI income, which isn't taxable. Anyhow, you can read about this further by referencing this IRS website.  To report your SSA-1099 payments, please perform these steps.

  1. Log into turbo tax
  2. Go to federal>income and expenses>all income
  3. Retirement plans and Social Security>show more
  4. Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) Start
  5. Here you will enter your SSA-1099 information.
  6. Also if the back pay amount is a lump sum payment involving prior years. You will report this in Turbo Tax.
  7. After you enter the SSA-1099, there will b a screen that asks Did you receive any lump-sum payments?
  8. Here is where you will enter the information exactly the way that it is listed on the SSA-1099 form.
