It was for my 2018 return, and the refund amount did not change when I removed the contributions while going through the Turbotax amendment process. So it doesn't seem like I underpaid my taxes. The only reason to amend my tax return would be to clarify my contribution amount on record with the IRA on my 2018 return, which I am not sure is necessary.

Yes, you must amend to either remove the deduction for the traditional IRA contribution or correct the Form 8606 to remove the nondeductible contribution reported on Part I of that form. TurboTax will not properly prepare Form 8606 Part I if the amount on line 1 changes to zero, so you'll need to prepare the amended Form 8606 manually. You'll still want to use TurboTax to go through the amendment process to correct your traditional and Roth IRA basis so that you have an accurate tax file to transfer into 2019 TurboTax when the time comes.
