Funds are put into a Traditional IRA with pre-tax money and funds are put into a Roth IRA with after-tax money. The type of IRA you have will be listed on your year-end statement from the bank, broker or mutual fund that manages your account. However, your IRA contributions may be listed in box 12 of your W-2 and the code will tell you what type of IRA you have. For example, if you see code AA then you have a Roth IRA under section a 401(K) plan.
