If your return was rejected because your SSN is incorrect and you need to report your IP PIN, you can follow the instructions to fix your return:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and select Fix my return.
  2. On the Let’s fix your return and then refile screen, select Fix it now or Revisit next to the reject code and reason.
  3. On the next screen, you’ll see a detailed description of the error. Select Continue.
  4. Select My Info from the menu and go through the information to double-check your SSN
  5. If anything is incorrect, select Edit and make the correction.

For your IP PIN:

  1. In the search bar type IP pin (don't forget the space).
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.

If you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:

  • Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site, or
  • Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days)

Each year, the IRS issues CP01A notices that have a unique 6-digit IP PIN with instructions on how to use it.
