Are employer contributions to a HSA taxable income? I read online that it's not but when I entered this data in box 12 W, my tax returns for federal & state are reduced.

The contributions are taxable when you first enter them, but as you continue with the W to interview you should be asked to show that you have qualifying insurance. When you indicate that you have qualifying insurance, the contributions become nontaxable.
