1099-R - My #12 has word "EXEMPT"- Program won't allow the word. My #14 has abbrev. "NY"-Program won't allow NY to type. Can't Continue-Fix Error???

Can't go on...It's telling me, I first must fix the error.  I don't know where error is or if the above question is the error it's referring to, how to fix it.

If the Form 1099-R you received, the description on  #12  is State Tax Withheld  and the description on #14 is State Distribution.- the program only allow numeric value.

You can leave #12 and #14 blank. if you did not have any State Tax Withheld.

If box 12 has exempt  in it, why would you show the income in box 1 on your state tax. doesn't that mean that the income does not have to pay  state taxes
