1099_MISC for an award for being a volunteer firefighter for 25 years

When trying to enter this 1099, it automatically sets up a schedule C for self employment. This is an award from my county in MD for my years of volunteer work. It can't be considered a pension because not being employed by the county, so it comes as an award.

Correct, that would not be Self-Employment.

To enter the 1099-MISC and not have the program instruct you to file Schedule C, you will need to trick the software by saying

No, not like work

No, not with an intent to earn money

Only received in 2023

You may get this each and every year, but you'll need to say only 2023.

This is NOT an IRS question and your response is NOT reported on your return.

It is a way for the program to determine if the 1099-MISC is Self-Employment, but in your situation, it does not relate.
