Advice for International students

I am currently an international student (I am one of those lifelong/career students). I work and pay taxes, I have no debts and I've made sure to stay clear of credit card debts, not even ones from departmental stores. I want to save and invest, and potentially buy a house in America but I'm worried that I might have to return to my country of origin and then all my savings/investments and dreams of owning a home in America would be useless especially because I may never become a citizen, and I live on a student's income. I know for a fact (knock on wood) that I will be in the country for another 5-10 years getting those darn STEM degrees. But I still want some sort of stability and investment just in case I do become a citizen or don't have to leave for another 20-30 years. How do I proceed?
