im in the military and currently station in north carolina would i need to file state taxes for north carolina if own a house here but my residential address is still california as stated in my LES and W-2

If the North Carolina house is a rental property you will need to file a nonresident return. It is considered North Carolina source income.

If the North Carolina house is a rental property you will need to file a nonresident return. It is considered North Carolina source income.

Then it is considered your "second home". You do not have to file the tax return now, but if you ever do start renting it or sell it, you may have to report then. The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) allows you to retain your California residency of course.
