I am active duty, stationed in New York. My wife and I are not from NY and my wife meets the requirements of the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act to be treated as a nonresident.
Everything completing Turbo Tax initially went well, and it calculated a full refund for NY... until I tried to e-file. The problem is when filing with the state, it won't let me file with a "0" in for NY source Wages.
Is there a way to e-file or will I have to mail it in?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Try removing the 0 for New York Source wages and leaving the field blank.
Here's more info on How to File a Non-Resident State Return.
I've tried and it does not allow me to file.
You should be able to Efile in your situation.
If you're using TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and return to where you left off.
If that doesn't resolve your issue, you can Contact TurboTax Support, and they can get into your computer to take a look.
Or, you can mail your return, as you suggested.
