How do I file my VA military income

Your VA income is not taxable and therefore does not have to be included on your tax return. If you also receive regular military retirement then you should get a 1099-R from DFAS. Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the Search box on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”

or

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click "Federal" from the left side of your screen
  3. Click "Wages & Income" on the top
  4. Scroll down and click "Start or Edit/Add" next to "IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the question "Did You Have Any of These Types of Income?"
  6. Click "I'll Type it Myself"
  7. Choose "Form 1099-R, Withdrawal of Money from 401(k) Retirement Plans, Pensions, IRAs, etc."
  8. Click "Continue"
  9. From here TurboTax will walk you through entering your Form 1099-R
