The amount will not be reported twice on your income tax return. The amount from your 1099 for Rental Income will show up in your income summary in two places (Income from 1099 and Rental Properties and Royalties).

To verify this for yourself, you can preview your 1040 to make sure that this only shows up on line 17 of your tax return.

  1. Sign in at TurboTax.com and select the blue Take Me to My Return button, if you haven't already done so.
  2. On the Welcome Back Screen, choose Tools from the menu on the left side of your screen.
  3. Select View Tax Summary under Other Helpful Links.
  4. Choose Preview My 1040  from the menu on the left side of your screen.

Please respond back here if you have a different result.

That sounds good. The reason I ask is because the 1099-MISC amount for rents was NOT included in the 1099-MISC income summary for 2016. There's a major discrepancy between the two years, even though income is similar. So it makes me concerned that even if the line 17 adjusted rental income total is correct on the tax return, the gross from 1099-MISC will somehow show up elsewhere as other income. But you're saying that won't happen?

No, as long as you didn't enter the 1099 twice. Did you enter it in the Rental section? And have you checked the preview of your 2017 return? The screenshots that I added are from running a test where I added $20,000 of rental income from a 1099-MISC. Then I went back and looked at my income summary, and sure enough, the $20,000 shows up twice. But checking the 1040 preview shows it's reported only once. Of course, you should always print out/review your tax return before you file it.
