Why is a section 179 deduction for rental property not the same as a regular deduction like a repair? I don't think turbotax is calculating it properly.

Why is a section 179 deduction for rental property not the same as a regular deduction like a repair? I don't think turbotax is calculating it properly.

section 179 is limited to the net income from the property so if you had a loss there would be no 179 deduction.  if you had $6,000 in profits before the 179 and 179 was $10,000 you would be limited to $6,000 with a $4,000  carryover.  see if the property qualifies for bonus depreciation which isn't subject to these limitations.
