Why does the Massachusetts rental deduction reduce my refund?

The rental payment deduction should not reduce my refund. This is a deduction and should either have no affect or increase my refund. Is there a programming error or did something weird happen in Massachusetts?

Are you sure it isn't your Taxes Due that are being reduced?

Oh dear, good point. Checked again and you are correct. I simply owe less. All is relatively well. Thank you.

It is a common mistake to confuse ''Tax Refund'' and ''Taxes Due''.   And much nicer to see the refund go up instead of the amount owed!
