Where do I claim investment loss on Form 1040X?

Hello,

I realized after filing my tax return a few days ago that I forgot to claim investment loss incurred in 2023.  I understand that I need to make an amendment on 1040X form, but which line do I enter the $3,000 loss?

Thanks!

You enter the details of the sale in the investments section of TurboTax and TurboTax will transfer the information to your tax return (line 7).     Enter the sale in the Investment Income section, which will be in Personal Income or Wages & Income, depending on which version you are using.

Thanks for responding, but I need to claim the loss on the *amended* return since I've already filed my returns, unless I'm mistaken?

Yes, if your return has already been filed and processed, open your return and choose the option to Amend.   You will enter the sale as indicated above and TurboTax will prepare the 1040X.  It works the same way as if you were filing the original return.   Wait until your original return is fully processed.    Amend in Online linked here.   In desktop, see below.

($3,000)  is part of AGI ; that will show on 1040-X Line 1

To support this you have to attach correct Schedule D and Forms 8949 showing your loss.
