We did not sell bonds, stocks or mutual funds. Turbo tax says we did and need to file more information. How do we resolves this?

How can I go back and look at the questions asked about forms received - ie 1099-divs etc?

To go back to the section where you most likely entered stock or dividend information, follow these steps:

In TurboTax online

  1. Sign-in to your account.
  2. Select Federal in the left margin.
  3. Select Wages & Income, left margin.
  4. On Your Income and expenses screen scroll down to Investment and Savings.
  5. Click on the drop-down arrow if necessary to reveal more options.
  6. Click Start/Revisit across from Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B).
  7. At the screen Let's import your tax info, you will see the option to Enter a different way.
  8. Then select the type of investment.
  9. Continue to enter information as prompted.
  10. At the screen Now, choose how to enter your sales, make the appropriate selection

If you are using TurboTax CD/download, the process is very similar.

If you have no stock, mutual fund, or dividend information to enter, another option you might try is to review the forms that have been created for your account, and then delete the forms/schedules that relate to stocks, mutual funds, or dividends.  This information is likely to be reported on Schedule D, or Form 8949, and therefore, if you delete such forms, then the error you are seeing may be solved.

To review your forms in TurboTax CD/download, select Forms (upper right corner of screen).  In the left margin, review your forms and delete Schedule D, and/or Form 8949.

In TurboTax online, to view and delete forms, follow these steps:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

Here is a link to a TurboTax article discussing how to delete a form which you also may find helpful.
