Turbotax premium is required for capital loss carryforward from prior years even when no current year schedule d is required?

If you have a capital loss carryforward from the previous year, you need to report it on schedule D in the current year even if that is the only reason you need the schedule D in the current year. So, from what you described you do need a schedule D in the current year.
