It asks for my total rent, but I dont know if it wants it as how much I pay a month or all together paid

There is no deduction for rent on your federal return.   Some states may have, but we need to know what state you reside in to determine that.   If your state has such a credit, you will be asked about it when you prepare the state return.  

 

If you are in the federal section, any questions pertaining to rent would come from the rental section, which is for property you own and rent out to others.   If you are not renting property you own, you can delete your entries in the Rental Properties section.   Don't enter any rent you paid for your residence on your federal return.
