I invested $25,000 in a trucking business. We haven't made any money how can I report this loss on my taxes?

What does "invest" mean?  Purchase stock?  Partnership interest?  Loan?  Bought a truck?  Something else?  

 

Is the business actually 'open' and available for customers/clients?
