I've entered an installment sale with the same sale date for 9 years. The payments are continuing. I'm getting an error, SALE DATE MUST BE CURRENT YEAR!. WHY???

Are you in the right spot?  Sound like you are entering it in the stock section.   Installment sales have their own entry spot.   Search for installment sales, and you will get a jump to link that will take you to the right spot.
