I have recently been appointed as a Township Trustee. I received a 1099misc for rent, and storage in my home. I am not sure how to enter the information. I am not self employed.

I have recently been appointed as a Township Trustee. I received a 1099misc for rent, and storage in my home. I am not sure how to enter the information. I am not self employed.

You will want to enter the 1099 MISC exactly as it appears on the form you were given.  The 1099 MISC form is for income paid to you for situations where it is not employee wages.  Therefore, there are many scenarios where one can receive a 1099 MISC form and not be in a business of being self-employed. 

Enter the 1099 MISC income information (see link below on where to enter) and TurboTax will ask questions to help identify whether self-employment tax needs to be calculated on the income. Plus, if TurboTax asks questions related to whether there are any expenses for this "business" or if the "business" has a tax ID, etc, those are simply generic questions as some 1099 MISC situations will be a "yes" answer and other 1099 MISC scenarios will be a "no."  And since you do not have a business for the 1099 MISC income you received, you can answer those questions in the negative.
