Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I don't have a business but Turbo Tax defaults me to the self-employed software package. How do I change that? I do have several rental properties and have some unreimbursed work expenses (including home office).

You can simply use the "clear and start over" feature in the program.  You are prompt to use the Self-employed version could be because that's the version you used last year.  Based on the information being provided, seems like you will need the TurboTax Premier version.  Please follow the instructions below.  Note that by doing so, it erases the current entries if there are any, but will keep the previous information from last year including your personal info, the income categories and the different schedules you have filed.  Follow the prompts and program will revisit those areas for clarification and assist you to select the appropriate version for your new tax return.

  • Sign into your account, select Take me to my return
  • To your left, select Tools, click on the drop-down menu
  • Select Clear and Start Over
  • Follow the prompts to select the right version

As far as your unreimbursed expenses, if you are referring to employee-related, you cannot deduct any of those this year. With the new tax reform TCJA, Congress has suspended the entire Form 2106 employee job-related subject to 2% of AGI section.

Thanks.  I'm basically done with my taxes data entry.  So if I use "Clear and STart Over" would that erase all the financial / tax info I've already entered?

I am fine with the financial entries just not the specific software package Intuit has pre-selected for me.
