I am not sure what to put in the "received from" section on the 1099-DIV information. I never cashed out stocks for profit. I sold stock and reinvested into other stock

Am I supposed to put the investment company in this section? It says financial institution is what is usually entered which I associate with a bank.

Yes, enter the name of the company that issued the dividend. The blue Learn More box says:

Enter the name of the bank, financial institution, or other payer of the dividends you received. Report each payer of dividends (or Form 1099-DIV) received separately.
