Can I enter small investments from robinhood or coinbase without a 1099?

My investments were too small to require a 1099 document. How do I still report those investments on Turbotax?

Yes, you can report your investment sales without Form 1099-B.

While in the Wages & Income Section of TurboTax, you will

  1. click on  Investment Income and continue through the Interview until you get to this question:
  2.  "Did you get a Form 1099-B or Brokerage Statement"
  3.  Select No and continue.
  4. The next question will be "Tell us about this Sale" See the screenshot below:
  5. You will then Select:
  • I will enter one sale at a time or
  • I'll enter a summary for each category

Can I enter small investments from robinhood or coinbase without a 1099?

Thank you for the quick response.

When I go to "investment and Saving income", I hit revist on  "Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B)" but then it takes me straight to uploading a document from an institution. I am not getting  the question on if I received a 1099-B. Is there something else I should be doing?

Thank you for the help!

To enter the stock sale without a 1099-B follow these instructions:

  •  Click on Income & Investments
  • Scroll to Investments and Savings and click on Start (or Edit or Review)
  • Click on Add Investments. And then Continue on the next page
  •  Choose to Enter a different way
  • Pick Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue
  • Which bank or brokerage sent you a 1099-B for these sales?, Enter name of brokerage, and Continue
  • Answer questions on next page and Continue
  • Now, Choose how to enter your sales, One by one, Continue
  • Continue past the page Look for your sales on your 1099-B
  • You can enter your sales on the next page.
  • In the first box, Sales section, Choose Short-term (or long-term) did not receive 1099-B form

Continue with the information for your sales

Can I enter small investments from robinhood or coinbase without a 1099?

Thanks for the help!

What if I didn't sell? When I leave the proceeds blank it automatically fills in with $0.00 making it seem like I lost all stock value. Also it looks like I have to enter each stock separately.

Is there no way to import robinhood information like I imported coinbase info without a 1099-B?

Yes.  Robinhood partners with TurboTax.  You can use TurboTax Premier or TurboTax Premier Live to automatically import your transaction history directly into their software.

Use this LINK to import Robinhood transactions.  Follow the instructions.

Here is another link from Robinhood that will be useful.

Unfortunately, those do not help me because I did not sell and the investments were too small to require a tax form. How can I import Robinhood investments that were not sold and do not require a tax form?

It depends. If you did not sell any of your investments then there is nothing to report on your tax return as far as sales go.

If you had dividends or interest then you report those without a document just like as if you did have one.

  1. Search (upper right)  > type 1099div > click the Jump to... link > Continue to enter your dividends
  2. Search (upper right)  > type 1099int > click the Jump to... link > Continue to enter your interest
