Can I deduct rent if I had to rent while working away from my primary residence

I own a home but worked a job far enough away from my main home that I had to rent an apartment. Can the rent I paid be deducted as part of a job expense?

No. Commuting expenses for your usual job are not deductible, no matter what the distance is. And, personal living expenses such as rent are not deductible.
