Roughly when did firms first start using consolidated 1099's?
Are consolidated 1099's relatively new, or were they around "like" forever?
My CPA is asking when the 1099=DIV's are for firms he listed on my 2022 1040 schedule B, and neither of us have any idea!
There's like 7-10 companies listed in sched B, I believe in "section II, ordinary dividends." !!!
I'm thinking these my all be from a consolidated 1099 sent in 2022 by Charles Schwab, who very recently acquired TA Ameritrade!
His CPA uses "professional tax software", other than TT.
Anyone understand this? !!!

Doesn't Schedule B list the payers or firms for the dividends? Who did your 2022 return? You or the CPA? Were the 1099 forms imported? Yes the 1099DIV could have been imported with any other 1099 forms like 1099B for sales and 1099R for retirement. You can probably log on to your Schwab or Amertirade account and download the pdf for the 1099 forms for 2022. They should have sent you any 1099 forms in the mail.
If the CPA did your 2022 return then he should know what he entered on it and where he got the info. Why does he (or you) need to know the details of Schedule B? If you are doing a 2023 return, you can transfer from 2022 and then delete any 1099 you don’t have and add any new ones.
Consolidated forms were widely used around 2010.

I TOTALLY agree with you. I'm going to try to find out why this has become so difficult!
