Tax Refund from 2017

We received a Federal tax refund last year (2017) and the entire balance was applied to the balance we owed from 2014 which we have been making payments on.  Do e need to account for that tax refund in any way on our 2018 taxes?

No, there is no type of deduction for back taxes paid on your federal return.  If you file a state tax return, there "may" be some benefit for federal taxes paid.  You'd need to check your state tax return instructions to find out for sure.
