I’m running TurboTax Desktop 2025 on a Windows 11 Dell laptop and have been tracking update behavior closely since November. I’m seeing a repeating pattern of intermittent update failures, DNS resolution errors, and inconsistent installer behavior. I’m posting the details here to see if others are experiencing the same thing and whether Intuit has acknowledged it.
Repeated entries in the update log show:
“The remote name could not be resolved: ‘downloadpatch.esd.intuit.com’”
This happens in bursts — sometimes 20–30 times in a row — even though my internet connection is stable and other sites resolve normally. Manual updates often succeed minutes later.
This appears during automatic update attempts, but manual updates still install successfully. TurboTax AI has confirmed this error is tied to intermittent connectivity or DNS issues on the update server side, not permissions or antivirus.
I’ve had multiple instances of:
“You must be an Administrator to remove this application.”
The odd part is that the install succeeds minutes later without changing anything. This suggests an installer elevation glitch rather than a permissions problem.
Example: 1/21/2026 — “Install succeeded (Program Updates)” …but nothing new appears in the Installed Updates history.
I can enter data into many forms, but forms like 1116, 8606, and related worksheets still don’t allow input. I assume this is due to IRS finalization timing, but I’m including it in case it’s related.
Error 42001 is a transient server handshake failure, not a system issue.
DNS failures to downloadpatch.esd.intuit.com are intermittent and external, not caused by my PC.
Successful updates confirm my installation and permissions are healthy.
Some forms remain locked because they are not yet finalized by the IRS.
Are others seeing repeated DNS failures to downloadpatch.esd.intuit.com?
Is error 42001 common this year even when updates eventually install?
Has anyone seen MSI error 1730 followed by a successful install minutes later?
Do your Installed Updates logs ever show “Install succeeded” without adding anything new to the list?
Are forms like 1116 and 8606 still locked for you as of late January?
I’m not experiencing any system issues outside TurboTax, and updates do eventually install — it’s the inconsistency and the DNS failures that concern me.
