Using Desktop TurboTax. Reviewing past tax years' PDF copy of filings to prepare for next year.
Tax Years 2024, 2021, 2020, and 2019 have a Form 8606 in the print-for-records PDF file. Tax Years 2023 and 2022 do not have a Form 8606 in their file.
I reinstalled TurboTax for 2024 and 2023. Form 8606 is not in the list of forms to print in 2024 or 2023. So I do not understand how it was printed for 2024. Can someone explain why/how? TurboTax 2024 was updated when I opened it today.
A related issue is that Form 1040-SR shows a reasonable amount in line 4b, IRA Distribution Taxable Amount, for each year in question, but line 4a (gross) IRA Distribution is blank for 2023, 2022, and 2021. Can someone suggest why?
How can I insure that Form 8606 is printed in the future? I will check line 4a and, if needed, manually enter the correct value.

About line 4a missing. It is not required if line 4a is the same as 4b. Only if it's different than 4b.

Reporting taxable distributions on your return.
Report fully taxable distributions, including early distributions, on Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, line 4b (no entry is required on line 4a). If only part of the distribution is taxable, enter the total amount on Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, line 4a, and enter the taxable part on Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, line 4b.
