I think the issue at hand is TurboTax had state updates after i filed on 1-31-26, as the PDF file of the return shows $1032 and after TurboTax updated after I filed shows tax owed of $778. I went to the amend section for TurboTax and it shows a refund in the amount of $254. Not sure if i should amend this return for that amount or will TurboTax see i over paid for 2025 and then for 2026 show a credit. Not sure what to do.

The IRS/States is currently processing a high volume of e-filed returns, so it can take several days for your payments to go through. The IRS/States may debit the payment after the deadline. Also, it can take the banks another few days to post the debit to your account. As long as you filed you return or extension on or before April 15, 2026, and you selected April 15, 2026, or earlier as your payment date, you won't get penalized for late payment. If you don't see the debit in your bank account 7–10 days after their return has been accepted, call the IRS e-file Payment Services at 888-353-4537 or contact your state tax agency.
How do I contact my state Department of Revenue?
If the IRS received two payment, you will need to contact them for the refund of the duplicate payment.
It might be easiest to set up an account with them.

Problem TurboTax 2025 Desktop This year's TurboTax included the ability to set up a state and federal tax payment schedule. This is a great help to the taxpayer. However, in 2025 there was a significant problem. The TurboTax software requires a user to check a box if the taxpayer wants a federal or state receipt. This was easily missed so the user has no record of the transaction and does not know if the payment schedule has been accepted and does not have a receipt. TurboTax was involved in setting payments but does not provide a record of the transactions. The Federal system does provide details of prescheduled payments but some states like Michigan do not. Taxpayers can be left in a position of not knowing the status of their payment: accepted or not submitted. In future when setting up a payment schedule on TurboTax suggest the user is always presented with a government receipt showing amounts/dates and tracking nos. If they don't want a receipt, they should check a box to delete the receipt. The reverse of the present system. Also have TurboTax is going to help set up the prepayment schedule, then I think the receipt information should be included in the Your E-file Status page at the end of the return.

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS/State releases your refund.
The IRS states that most federal tax refunds are issued within 21 days of acceptance, however, some may take longer if they require additional review. Also, by law, the IRS cannot issue EITC or ACTC refunds before mid-February. This applies to your entire refund, not just the portion related to those specific credits.
Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"?
Why do some refunds take longer than others?
What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.
Your refund could be offset. The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts. You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for. The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.

Once your return is electronically filed, TurboTax will have no further information about your electronic payments for your state tax return. So, if your SC tax return showed a balance due of $778, there will not be any information in TurboTax for 2026 showing that more than that balance due was paid to the state.
If the amount that was actually paid to the state does not match the tax return that was filed, you should contact the SC Department of Revenue to learn why. You may even be able to log in to your online account with the SCDOR to get the answers you need.

If you are amending your Federal, you would amend any state return that is effected by your Federal Changes.
If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.
You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment
Select your product below and follow the instructions.

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number. If you:
Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2024 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).
Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.
This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.
