The asterisk means that the taxable amount is being calculated on the Taxable IRA Distribution Worksheet, which is included as part of your return if you choose to print 'all government and TurboTax worksheets' or you can view it in Forms if you are using a desktop version of TurboTax.  The worksheet is based on the IRS worksheet linked here.   Since a deductible contribution of $7000 was made in 2024 and a non-deductible contribution was made in 2025, at least a portion of the amount converted to the Roth IRA will be taxable.  Without taking any earnings into account, if $7000 was converted to the Roth IRA, then $3500 will be taxable.     Every distribution from a Traditional IRA is a mixture of pre-tax and after-tax money.  Each distribution takes into account all Traditional IRAs that you may have when determining whether the distribution is taxable.  The taxable amount is proportional to the part of the account that is pre-tax money (deductible contributions and earnings).     So even if you only converted the $7000 that was a non-deductible contribution, the deductible contribution from 2024 is taken into account as well (along with any earnings in the account) and makes part of the conversion taxable.   @dipanjan108

@ user17738594068  This is mainly a user community forum--not a direct route to TurboTax Customer Support.    You said you mailed the 2024 return.   TurboTax doesn't mail it for you, so I presume you physically did.   You didn't mention if you have talked to the IRS to see if they show a 2024 return has been filed.  Or if you have an online IRS account, you can look in there and see what your 2024 return transcript shows.   RS: 800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday   I can't tell for sure from your original posting, but if you used Online TurboTax for 2024, are you also having trouble finding your 2024 online return in your TurboTax account?   If so, we can tell you how you should be able to find a copy of it.

"Turbo Tax fails again. There is a bug preventing filing for a LEGITIMATE RETURN (all caps are for your idiotic warning) How fd I get help ASAP?"   As for ASAP, the fastest way is likely here in this user community forum.   You can ask a question in this forum, and if someone is familiar with it, you will likely get some comments.  You would need to describe your issue.   TurboTax phone support isn't open yet and not always easy to reach. Thank you for providing your diagnostic file.  The error is in the follow-up questions after all Form 1099-R have been entered.  As you go through these questions, you indicated that the total value for the Traditional IRA for the taxpayer as of December 31, 2025 was $1.  Then, when the same question comes up for the spouse, the answer is entered as $7000.  It should be $0 based on the scenario you outlined in your question.

Way ahead of you. I would need to electronically file it. They have no record of it. Followed the directions and had the past office check it. Would love to get this back and have it filed but can not get a hold of anyone on you end to get it done. Your customer service number is terrible. Your only allowed to  have one of two issues and then they don't understand and hang up. You should be able to speak to someone about the issues that you are having. The support sucks.

Hello, From what I understand, TurboTax Live is designed for answering questions during the filing process, with experts available on demand. My need is different. I'm specifically looking for a tax expert who can act as a tutor — someone who will: teach me how to prepare my own return from scratch spend extended time in sessions (not just short Q&A calls) provide continuity across multiple meetings This is closer to a “training / mentoring” engagement rather than standard support. Is there any way TurboTax can accommodate such a request, or recommend someone (CPA / EA) who works in this format? We are open to custom arrangements if needed. Thank you!

You probably can claim the $500,000 primary residence. Because you are tearing down and rebuilding, the critical factor is timing.      You are (married filing jointly) You owned the home for at least 24 months (2 years) out of the last 5 years when you sell the house. You used it as your residence for at least 24 months of the previous 5 years when you sold it. You must be sure you satisfy the IRS use and residency tests regarding the land and the new structure within the 5-year period before the sale.

Did you enter the information for the different dates or did you just enter a lump sum for estimated payments?  I'm making the assumption you did not make separate entries for each of the scheduled due dates.  The numbers don't need to be exact, but the IRS does require entries in those fields to calculate whether you underpaid taxes during a certain quarter.  That's how the software determines whether you owe a penalty.  I hope I'm not underestimating your intelligence and if so, I apologize.  You may also be prompted to enter your estimated wages for each quarter as well.  The two go hand in hand to determine if the correct amount of taxes were paid for each quarter.  Hope this helps.
Is there an option of me providing the necessary documents?

Your computer may be blocking pop-ups. Go to settings on your computer and check to see if the Pop-ups field is set to "Blocked".  If so change it to "Allow".  Also if you have "Ad Block" as one of your browser extensions click on that and change it to "Allow"  You'll need to refresh your browser in both cases, but this is a common problem with browsers these days. If that doesn't help, try changing your default browser to another browser type like Microsoft Edge assuming you are using Chrome, or even Firefox,  if you have that installed on your computer.  I hope my response isn't too technical for you.
