Turbo Tax is so absurdly unclear in this department that they need to overhaul the PIN area pages of the software. I'm not sure if the following is accurate, but I'm going to tell you what every horribly unclear Turbo Tax source has on this subject.  They say you EITHER need your LAST YEAR'S 5-digit self-select pin OR last year's AGI, but they never tell you WHERE TO PUT LAST YEAR'S PIN if you're using that.   Now what makes this unclear is that when the Turbo Tax software page comes up for e-filing, they ask you to enter a pin and last year's agi.  What's unclear is.... is this THIS YEAR's pin you're entering?  Or your pin from last year?  Do they need to match?  Don't know any of that. That's why their software should be more clear on this. On the submission page it looks like you're entering a new pin for this year, and in the AGI box you can either enter last year's agi OR last year's pin you used, but they don't tell you this.  If this is the case, the page should very clearly state this. In addition, there's an IRS generated 6-digit pin which changes every year and they mail to you....all by request.  There's nothing on the Turbo Tax electronic filing page about this from what I remember. The whole thing is a mess and Turbo Tax could clear up a ton of confusion if the **bleep** page was more clear on this. Finally, many TT pages tell users that if the IRS 'accepts a return' from the previous tax year, that agi can and should be used in the agi box.  This is technically incorrect. What it should say is if the IRS accepts a return...that was filed on time use the agi.  IF you filed your taxes after the standard deadline the previous year, such as what I did because some in Florida got extended filing deadlines, even if the IRS at some point 'accepts your return' and CLEARLY has your agi listed in their database from the previously accepted return, they will not accept this agi.  If you put a zero (0) in your agi line they may accept it.  So if you get an electronic filing rejection and you know your agi is correct, use zero and retry. I shouldn't have to type any of this on here, Turbo Tax needs to make their software far more clear.

Thanks for info so far. When it says "donations" is it all the Charitable Donations added up (you specified Aggregate)?  each Donation (i.e. each check must be above .5% of AGI, which seems unreasonable)?  or possibly each entity your enter, i.e. Charity Org 1 - total for year must be .5% AGI and Charity Org 2 - total for year must be .5% of AGI? Also, I have seen some entities also say that the floor is also not-deductible, meaning if your have .5% of AGI is $660, then $660 is not deductible?  That doesn't seem right when I read the text of OBBB.  Any clarity coming from IRS for you?  I see nothing in IRS pages at this time. Thanks

I work home health and am not reimbursed for mileage. Can I claim it on my taxes?

I bought a couple of new machines with Win 11 pre-installed but actually did use Rufus to upgrade a couple of really old machines from Win 10 to Win 11. The process went 100% smoothly and, frankly, was a no-brainer; absolutely zero issues after the upgrade.   However, we still aren't completely sure whether or not the 2025 TurboTax editions will download and install on Windows 10 (regardless of what Intuit is proffering). Thus, it might be a better approach to simply wait until the desktop products are released to see whether or not upgrading is even necessary. FWIW...

You guys make it hard to contact you, so this was the best spot I could find to leave some sort of message. I am a high school teacher in Saskatchewan and we have Financial Literacy 10, 20 and 30 now in our province. I mainly teach these subjects at my high school. We are trying to complete income taxes with the students so they know what to do after high school Right now we have the students make accounts using student emails and it asks for their personal phone numbers. I have seen that you have student simulations for high school students in the United States. Would you be able to create the same simulation for Canadian students? A few different scenarios of different degrees of difficulty (T4 vs T4 and investment income) for students to complete. The advantage for you, is that students would still see your product but we wouldn't have to provide students their personal phone number and simplify the log in phase as they are only making accounts temporarily.

Bsch4477 ---  Why doesn't TPM1.2 meet requirements? The only requirement listed for TurboTax 2025 is Win 11. No mention if TurboTax even uses the TPM feature nor which version of TPM (1.2 or 2.0).  I also know many people will update their PCs to Win 11 without any TPM (using workarounds like Rufus). I have been checking to see if TurboTax has any TPM requirements and so far can find nothing that states TT actually need it at all.

Win11 officially requires a TPM, but there is a work around. Basically you use a utility called Rufus to create an installation from USB and you have the option to remove the TPM requirement. This will let you install Win 11 on older hardware without TPM. It really pretty easy to do this. Just google it for online instructions and even step by step videos. And about 14yr old hardware. I built my last PC in 2014 with fast processor/memory/etc. Over the years, it was updated with new faster SSDs and Faster Video card. It does gaming in 1080p and even some 1440p just fine. And if you are not a gamer, then why would you need the latest PC to browse the internet or run Word/Excel? You don't. Old hardware can run just fine for a lot of users.

For the "TurboTax 2024" Windows Program   Forms - INFOWS (This menu item has an email hiding in it) keeps information on the holder of the tax doc/file.   The NETFILE confirmation email is sent directly to the person, using the email address listed in FORMS/INFOWS. That's it.  I have now updated it. A thousand thank you!

So on Turbo Tax it says that "2024 Amended New York Return This return has already been e-filed. The current return status is PENDING." But when I download the Turbo Tax Return Worksheets it says:  What You Need to Mail | Your amended return - Amended Income Tax Return. Remember to sign and date the return  |  Your payment - Mail a check or money order for $35.00, payable to "NYS Income Tax". Write the last four digits of your social security |  number and "2024 Amended Income Tax Return" on the check. Mail the return and check together.  |  Your payment voucher - This printout includes a payment voucher |  (Form IT-201-V). Mail this voucher with your payment.  |  Do not attach copies of the original filed return to your amended New York tax return. Simply mail in the forms that printed with your amended tax return. Do not write 'AMENDED' on the amended forms -New York does not require this notation on software generated forms. | |  Mail your return, attachments, payment and payment voucher to: |  State Processing Center |  PO Box 15555 |  Albany, NY [removed] | |  Don't forget correct postage on the envelope. Is this only if I pay by mail? Or if I pay online do I not have to mail this in since my amended return was already efiled?
