Thanks to you all for the helpful answers. I really like the community here.    I've noted this all down, and I'll try to pay via the electronic transfer via the site mentioned above. I would be more than happy to have written my last paper check last year!   I've maintained a US bank account since I moved overseas, and I've been very glad on many occasions. I can only recommend for folks wanting to move overseas that they do so as well.     Thank you all again.
TurboTax doesn’t know if the IRS has accepted your return after processing and gets no information about your return. The email reflects what happens most of the time but is no guarantee.

Hello, while working on my 2024 return I realized that the Business use percentage for my rental property on my 2023 return is incorrect and that the asset depreciation was calculated at 50% business use instead of 100% (consequently I took a much lower depreciation in previous years). How do I fix this for previous years (2023 and earlier)? Or do I just change the Business use for 2024 to 100% so it will be correct going forward?  I appreciate your help with this. Thankyou

If you did not claim an itemized deduction for the state tax on your 2023 tax return, then you do not report it as a state income tax refund on your 2024 federal tax return, and you do not use the state income tax refund worksheet. The entire refund is taxable income in 2024. Just enter it as "other income" on Schedule 1 line 8z of your 2024 federal tax return with a description that you enter. Here's how to enter it in the desktop TurboTax software.   Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income. On the screen "Your 2024 Income Summary," scroll all the way down to the last section, "Less Common Income." Click the Start or Update button for the last topic, "Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C." On the next screen, "Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income," scroll down and click the Start or Update button for the last topic, "Other reportable income." The next screen asks, "Any Other Taxable Income?" Click Yes. On the next screen, "Other Taxable Income," enter a short description such as "PTET refund" and enter the amount. Click Continue. On the next screen click Done.

In 2023, I had state taxes paid on my behalf via a pass-through entity tax (PTET). In 2024, I received a refund of some of these taxes. The taxes definitely reduced my federal tax in 2023, and I'm sure I should pay federal tax on the refunds in 2024 (tax benefit rule). The TurboTax state tax refund worksheet doesn't seem to know how to deal with these. It only uses my 2023 itemized deductions for taxes paid. The PTET wasn't itemized; it just came out of the gross income reported to me.   Does anyone know how to handle this in TurboTax?

Login to IRS portal usind ID.me account 2. Clicked "Make a Payment" under Payments located at bottom left corner 3. Then selected the following option shown in the screenshot.   I selected 2024 Income Tax

When you paid what description did you select for the payment?   It would probably be a payment with an extension to file.   To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension)  go to Federal Taxes (or Personal for desktop H&B version) Deductions and Credits Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button   Next page second section Payments with Extension Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid   If you selected to pay an estimated payment in April that would be for a payment for next year’s 2025 tax return and not your 2024 tax due.   The last estimated payment for 2024 was due Jan 15.

Hi everyone, I'm currently preparing to file my federal tax return using TurboTax, but I have a question about recording a payment I already made. In April, I directly paid my estimated taxes due to the IRS via their website. Now that I'm going through the TurboTax workflow, it's showing that I still need to make a payment, as it doesn't have any record of my previous direct payment to the IRS. Could anyone please suggest which specific section or step within the TurboTax portal I should use to input these payments I already made directly to the IRS? My goal is to ensure my final forms accurately reflect this payment, so my return shows no remaining balance due and, ideally, indicates that I've overpaid and am due a refund from the IRS. Any guidance on how to correctly reflect this in TurboTax would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

@Mike-2   Can you let me know how you get 2023 installed?   I was going to post that first link for you but I think it only works to install 2024.   When you bought 2023 did it download a file?   Go to your download folder and double click on it to start the install.   And you may have to activate it with the 16 digit License Code.
