If you have not sold an investment asset, you are not required to upgrade from TurboTax Online Deluxe to TurboTax Online Premium.
However, you may need to upgrade for other reasons.

@morningbear7 , did you enter the amount while filling out form 2555 ? If you cannot go to forms mode, then perhaps the best way would be to go back to "persoanl income " tab. Then select " I will choose what I work on". Thereafter go down the list of income category till you find "Foreign Earned Income Exclusion", now select edit --- this should allow you to re-enter / edit all that you had entered.
Hope this works for you.
Is there more I can do for you ?

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.
What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

In the File section, you're asked about your Federal Return first, then each state. You can change the option for one state to 'print for mailing' and Efile the rest.

Thanks for the response. I should expect it to be accepted, correct? I understand it may take longer - just anxious because both were initially rejected, but we made the correction and the federal was accepted immediately. I'm assuming that if it was good at federal, it's good at state? I know they are two different systems - just trying to stop worrying!

Thanks for the help. It is disappointing that this information is not presented within TurboTax program. If one needs to have a e-filed Federal return accepted before being able to print for filing a state return, that information should be part of the instructions in the File tab. It is not. This is not a rare situation--people want to file by mail to save the costs of the filing fee. It is frustrating that Intuit makes it so difficult to file by mail. Profit from e-filing fees is valued over customer satisfaction.

I am assuming this is for NY, as NY is very particular about the document entry. Enter the first 3 characters after, not including "IDUSA". Some other users experienced errors with incorrect issue and expiry dates, so double check they are correct and not swapped as well.
For more information, see Where do I find my document number so that I can e-file my New York return?
If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.

Yes, it is automatic based on your birthday. The enhanced senior deduction phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers. The deduction is reduced by 6% of the excess amount per eligible taxpayer. Example (Single): MAGI = $100,000 → $25,000 above $75,000 threshold reduction = $25,000 × 6% = $1,500 reduction off the $6,000 deduction you can claim $6,000 − $1,500 = $4,500. For a married couple where both spouses qualify, apply the 6% rule separately to each $6,000. So a $12,000 potential deduction gets reduced by $60 for each $1,000 over the threshold per spouse.
