You can amend your federal tax return for free using TurboTax Online Free Edition, provided you used the same Free Edition to file your original return. You must wait until your initial return is accepted and fully processed by the IRS before starting the amendment process
If the changes require upgrading to a paid version (e.g., adding complex forms, investment income, or state filing). Charges often arise if the amendment moves you beyond the "Simple Return" scope of the Free Edition.
The TurboTax Free Edition is for customers who are filing simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules except for Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit and Student Loan Interest. Roughly 3.7% of taxpayers qualify. If you have additional forms or attachments, you'll need to use a different TurboTax product.

You are correct about what you have to do. And yes, on the New York tax return the credit for tax paid to another state is called the Resident Credit.

The rejection message says: IND-181-01 - The Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) for the first taxpayer on your return is missing.

There may be a reason why TurboTax thinks you have reached your limit of 5 e-filed returns. The limit may have been triggered by any rejected returns that were resubmitted, or multiple installations on different computers can sometimes trigger this prematurely. An amended return may also count toward your e-file limit.
You can check this by reviewing your e-file history in TurboTax Desktop by going to File, Electronic Filing, Show Electronic Filing Status History to see which returns were counted as e-filed.
Additional returns may have to be printed and mailed, or you can purchase a new license. However, the IRS limits you to five e-filed returns per email address, user, and computer IP address. This limit is addressed in IRS Publication 1345.
If you believe this is an error, you should contact TurboTax Support using this link: Turbo Tax customer support.
Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

Thanks, Catina Fortunately I finally got connected with a knowledgeable support person who knew about this problem and helped complete the order for me. The fact that the ordering process is broken should raise a red flag with your company. It took me about 2 hours with multiple attempts to contact customer service and get my order in. Most potential customers would have given up. Dave

Every time I started TurbTax, it changed a value that I had entered correctly on a 1099-DIV form, thus changing dramatically the amount of taxes owed. This is unacceptable. Then when I edited the 1099-DIV entry back, it changed back the amount of taxes due. So I started a new tax form and reentered all data; then the problem went away.

Hi. I purchased ESSP with these rules: Purchase Price means with respect to a Plan Period an amount equal to (a) ninety percent (90%) of the Fair Market Value of a Share on the Plan Period Commencement Date or (b) the Fair Market Value of a Share on the Plan Period Termination Date, whichever is lower. I am struggling to determine the cost basis for qualifying shares and disqualifying shares. For qualifying, I believe I should add the discount to the exercise price. But the discount depends on whether the purchase price is (A) or (B) above. If (A), is the Cost Basis (per share) the Exercise price + (fair market value on grant date - exercise price)? If (B), is Cost Basis simply the exercise price? For disqualifying shares, is the Cost Basis also just the exercise price? On my form 3922, I have the FMV on grant date, the FMV on exercise date and the exercise price paid per share. I also have Box 8 - exercise price per share determined as if the option was exercised on the data the option was granted (i.e. the 10% discounted price). Thank you!
