Ok- so I just started making contributions to my child's 529 and was able to get to ~40K this year alone. My question is if I contribute up to 95K this year and claim the 5 year gift tax exclusion, can I make contributions in 2026 -2030? and if I dont max up to 95K and claim the exemption, what are the downsides? Note I am married and file taxes jointly - I am the only one making contributions as my spouse does not work.

2024 or 2025? 2024 is closed for e-file from Turbotax at this point 2025 isn't ready to e-file yet, IRS does not accept returns until late January I wouldn't file anything, come back to it in January when you do file I would suggest avoiding "pay with my refund" as that will send it thru a 3rd party bank for a $40 fee.

you could start a fresh thread in the community here with the specifics of your situation and see if the experts here can advise on the tax math. there are a lot of threads about win 10 and the readiness of turbotax, so the actual tax issues get buried in here. I don't know enough about the EV credit situation and what changed in the big bill but I would think that's an area where using 2024 software may be tricky. If forms mode or dinktytown don't work for you then others have reported using FreeTaxUSA or switched to HR Block to do estimates but I can't vouch for either option. if you end up having to switch unfortunately, you can request refund on TT from Intuit here https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-refunds/request-refund-turbotax-product/L834M6uyW_US_en_US
