This is the review I left at Amazom: I have used this version for so many years now it's just part of my yearly routine. I tried others early on but found this meets my needs and expectations. However: This is the first year I can remember that they have released such an unfinished product. No Schedule C ready, not even an outline. Maybe they will have it done by February. It surely would be nice to know this BEFORE is bought and installed! So disappointed in this product release this year.

You can export your almost-finished return from TurboTax Online and open it in TurboTax Desktop, but the transfer isn’t always perfect—most core data like personal info, W-2s, and 1099 downloads usually carry over, though you may need to recheck certain entries. TurboTax Desktop does save your info year to year, but you do need to buy a new version annually. Desktop Deluxe can handle most investment forms, including 1099-DIV/INT, without needing Premier. And yes, state e-file is an additional fee and handled directly through the desktop software. If your transferred file has errors or missing entries, teams like [removed] can help review and clean up the data so everything lines up correctly.

This error usually happens when TurboTax can’t read the QuickBooks file’s internal components, even if everything looks correct on the surface. Try validating and rebuilding the QB file, temporarily disabling background security software, and running both programs as Administrator. Also confirm that your file isn’t in an older backup format and that your QuickBooks 2019 is on the final release update—TurboTax often rejects files that aren’t fully patched. If the file is slightly corrupted, a deeper rebuild or a clean copy often fixes the import issue. When the file needs structural cleanup, teams like [removed] can help repair and prepare the QB file so TurboTax can read it properly.

Should I, can I sell my stock at a loss before the new year, then claim loss on taxes, then repurchase same stock after the new year at same price? Seems like you can claim loss on taxes and repurchase and own same amount of shares at a lower price so you still have same number of shares. Is this possible or true?

@ouijacom asked: "Where is the no tax on tips on the W-2 page? wtf" TurboTax is still working on the new tax changes from the President's One Big Beautiful Bill in regards to "no tax on eligible tips and overtime." That portion of the W-2 interview is incomplete. Currently after one enters a W-2, there is a screen of checkboxes that says "Let's check for uncommon situations" (if any). On the next screen after that, there is a screen in Online TurboTax that currently says: "Check back later if you had overtime or tips "We're making some updates due to recent tax law changes around tips and overtime. It's okay to skip this for now, but be sure to check back here before you file." It doesn't state "when" the program will be updated with that capability. So in January after you receive your W-2 from your employer, be sure to go through all the screens of the W-2 interview again. Be aware that some other forms are still in development as well. TIP: Do not file your return before receiving your actual W-2. It's not recommended to solely rely on check stubs, which could result in the need for an amended return. Even in January don't be in a big hurry to file. The IRS will not open for processing of efiled returns (historically) until approx. the last week of January. While TurboTax may start allowing efiling in early January, those early returns would just sit on TurboTax servers until the IRS opens for tax season (except for a tiny number of returns the IRS pulls early for testing.) As a result, those early-filed returns cannot be retrieved if you notice any errors, get an additional W-2, need to make any changes, tax forms are revised, etc., and would require an amended return to correct anything, which can be a hassle..

This answer assumes your previous returns were prepared in Online TurboTax. Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account. Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary. Many people end up with more than 1 account. The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2025 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot. If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents." If the past returns are not there, see the steps below. If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes. A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be. It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all. To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method: Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.
