I provided the shortcut method above to go directly to the estimated tax payments entry section in Online TurboTax. If you want to use regular navigation, here's how. So between the 2 methods, you should be able to use one or both of them. When you click in the left column tab for Deductions & Credits and choose the Deductions & Credits Summary, it may take you to a page called "Your Tax Breaks". That shows the "Tax Breaks", i.e., deductions, that someone has already worked on this year or that TurboTax is expecting from what was entered last year. Lower on that same screen should be a button or link for "Add more tax breaks" or "Show more tax breaks" or similar wording. When clicked, then the screen should expand, and all the deduction topics are displayed including "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid." Then that topic can be expanded further to get the subtopic Estimated Tax Payments.

For Online TurboTax, here's a tool that should get you directly to the estimated tax payments section. I've also provided an alternate navigation method in a comment that follows this one. With the return open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then the subtab TOOLS. In the Tools Center choose the blue button Topic Search. In the topic search line enter the phrase estimated tax payments without quotes. Make the selection in the list (it may already be highlighted), and either double-click it or click the GO button. Next screen is Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid. Use the subtopic Estimated Tax Payments. Choose the appropriate category and tax year you are reporting (Federal, state, local) and click START or Revisit. NOTE: Before filing, make sure your Federal estimated tax payments correctly show on the Form 1040, Line 26, and that any state estimated tax payments (if applicable) show up on your state return.

with the w-2 info missing, your return may be rejected. if so, you can enter it and re e-file. Should it be accepted, once fully processed, you'll have to file an amended return.

My desktop TT installed an update today that now has some extra questions about the QTP-Roth rollover and does the right thing in making it not taxable. Yay! *However*, the first time I opened the tax return after the update, it had screwed up the refunds. I found that TT kept wanting to put an X in the internal 1099-Q Box 6, "Check if the recipient is not the designated beneficiary." There is no X in Box 6 of the printed 1099-Q received from the 529 plan, and in the walkthrough question (which, a bit confusingly, asks in the reverse manner, i.e. "Is the recipient the designated beneficiary?"), I have always answered Yes. Yet when I went to the Forms View, it had checked Box 6, which would render the rollover ineligible. After a few tries where I corrected the form by hand and also re-did the walkthrough, TT seems to have got the message. But there may be an issue here, so I would recommend that anyone needing this function open Forms View and check that "Form 1099-Q: Payments From Qualified Education Programs" form has been done right. You may need to walk through just to be sure.

There's no jump to link for Form 8949. TurboTax automatically completes Form 8949 when you enter your investment sales. You don't enter the sales directly on Form 8949. Form 1099-B is reported in TurboTax under the Investments and Savings Section of Wages & Income. If you would like to import your 1099-B, review the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter or import a 1099-B?. Follow the steps below to enter your 1099-B: Launch TurboTax Select Wages & Income Select the dropdown by Investments and Savings Select Start/Revisit by Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds (1099-B) TurboTax will guide you through the screens to enter your 1099-B. For more information on broker transactions, refer to the TurboTax article What is Form 1099-B: Proceeds from Broker Transactions?

How do I tell TT I had an RMD payment in 2026 for the 2025 tax year. There is not a 1099R since it was in 2026. I'm using the desktop version with the forms option. But I can use step by step if needed. Just need to know how to get to appropriate step.
