Lap top crashed and data lost from 2023 filing ( no issue with 2023 filing ) just need it for 2024 filing
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It looks like you are using TurboTax Desktop. Is there a chance you have a backup of files from the crashed computer stored on an external drive somewhere? If so, you will want to search it for the " .tax" file. If you are unable to access the computer and locate you 2023 .tax file, the other option is to set-up your online IRS account and get your 2023 tax transcript.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
So sorry to hear your laptop crashed! That is painful! You don't say how you filed your last return. If you filed it through TurboTax Online, you can log into your account and an expert can assist you in finding your return (it's under documents). If you used another software company, they can likely assist you. In any case, you can get the return information (and other useful stuff) from your IRS account. This article gives you more detail. If the transcript isn't enough, you can request a copy of the return. Here's info on that process.
Hope this helps and again, sorry!

Hello,
if you used TurboTax desktop and if you do not have a copy of tax return in PDF file or .tax file, there is no way for TurboTax to recover data. That data was stored locally on your computer only. You might try recovering data from hard drive using recovery service. If you cannot recover them at all, you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $43, an actual copy of your tax return.
Thanks for participating in TurboTax's Ask the Expert event today. I hope this information was helpful!
